Henry Jackman’s score is one of the strongest elements on the thriller “Captain Phillips”

In addition to Best Cinematography, this is one of my favorite categories. The score of the film can take it from being a good film to a great one. For a score to be nominated it can’t just sit flat, it needs to add to the film.

Gravity, as in many other technical categories, is a frontrunner here. Steven Price’s score is essential to fill the silence of space and create the tension needed to make the film as effective as it is. However, right on his heels is the famous (or infamous) Hanz Zimmer, known for his deep dramatic music.
